Our handcrafted Terracotta tiles give an earthy and rustic feel to any inside space. An East Asian Terracotta tile that looks aged and full of rustic character from the first day of laying once sealed.
Our Terracotta tiles have all the characteristics associated with a handmade tile. They have beautiful colour tone variations and minor cosmetic differences that make each tile unique such as pitting, nooks and crannies on surface and edge, together with the advantage of the clay being able to retain heat.
Fixing & Sealing Instructions:
Fix tiles into flexible floor tile adhesive.
Once adhesive has set then clean the surface of the tile using a dry white emulsifying pad and wipe with a dry micro fibre cloth to remove any loose matter and dust.
Apply a generous coat of Bolied Linseed Oil (BLO) with a paint brush, removing any excess that has not absorbed after 30 minutes.
Leave for a minimum of 4 hours and repeat.
Leave the final coat to dry overnight but remember to remove any unabsorbed BLO after 30 minutes.
NB: Used BLO cloths can be a fire risk. Dispose of any soiled BLO cloths as per instructions on bottle.
The next day, apply a generous coat of Antique Wax with a micro fibre cloth and leave for 15 minutes. Then buff well using a soft brush.
1 hour after waxing grout in the joints and sponge off residues.
After 30 mins dust off any residual grout from the surface and then leave to fry for a couple of hours.
Once the grout has firmed off apply a final coat of Antique Wax making sure to cover the grout joints as well.
For best results maintain the tiles with Waxwash.
If you wish to protect the tiles further and reduce the need to re-Wax please apply an even coat of surface sealant in Matt, Satin or Gloss finishes.
