Product Spotlight: Brazilian Black Slate Paving

Brazilian Slate Paving adds a sense of luxury to any patio with deep, bold tones and a lightly riven surface texture that will suit any modern design.
Like most natural stone, Brazilian Slate Paving is a very durable option for any patios or pathway. The high-quality slate tiles will last for decades and the durability of the stone makes it an excellent choice for any garden.
As an incredibly stain-resistant stone, black slate paving is suited to any family garden where you are likely to be entertaining guests, as well as being suitable for children and pets too!
Both the durability and stain-resistant nature of Brazilian Slate makes it one of the best choices for those who want a no-fuss and low maintenance patio.
The dark tones will create an eye-catching finish to any exterior space and also look great when wet with the deep tones becoming more accentuated.
The black and charcoal colours throughout will offer a high-end appeal to any modern design and, unlike some styles of slate which are split for a rustic and heavily riven finish, Brazilian Black Slate Paving has a gently riven surface for a much smoother feel to the stone.
The term ‘riven’ refers to the surface texture of the slabs which is created naturally when the stone is split along its layers and provides a truly authentic finish. This process leaves beautiful natural variations throughout the surface of each slab, meaning that no paver is exactly the same, one of the main appeals of Riven Paving.
Brazilian Slate is formed in layers that are compacted much more tightly together than other types of slate, meaning that the stone can be cut to size in a much cleaner fashion which avoids any harsh and deep variations in the surface of the stone. This surface gives the paving its natural charm and provides a premium appeal to the slate for a high-end, luxury finish!
The low water absorption and resistance to frost means that the paving is very practical to maintain.
The slabs will only require a little maintenance to protect it against harsh weather and ensure that it stays looking its best all year round and it is generally advised to seal Brazilian Slate to help prevent any further growth of any moss or algae.
When it comes to sealing, there is a wide range of products on the market that will provide various results. Some sealants will simply seal and protect, whereas others can be used to enhance the colour of your slabs.
Sealing your Brazilian Slate patio will also help to protect against other general wear such as fading which can sometimes occur over long periods and as for when to apply a sealer, there are no specific guidelines, but most landscapers will have their own tried and tested methods.
We always advise speaking to a local tradesperson who will be able to assess the many variables within your environment and offer specific advice for your project and we also have some great advice on sealing your paving HERE.
